Peter
Friedland is one of our many racing customers. He found Ducshop after buying
his new 748RS from his local dealer in South Carolina and wanted it prepped for racing. To ensure reliability Mark recommended
blue-printing the engine.
All new engines can be a little out of alignment and Pete’s was no
exception. Many of the clearances were out of spec. While blue-printing we
installed the correct size rod shells, balanced and re-shimmed the crank,
re-shimmed the transmission, set the squish, matched the manifolds and degreed
the cams with a race spec valve adjustment. We feel it’s worth mentioning that
Ducshop only uses AGIP 20/50 oil, on every service, after race experience shows
AGIP has the lest amount of wear on internal Ducati engine parts.
When putting back the
engine we also installed the Corse magnesium swingarm and link that Pete had
purchased from his dealer along with the BST carbon fiber wheels and a new
D.I.D ERV2 chain.
Mark set up the front and rear suspension from previous year’s racing
notes, giving Pete a good base setting that has kept him happy at all the
tracks he’s raced at. In fact it’s only the gearing and ride height that has
had to be adjusted during race meetings.
Finally
the bike was Dyno tuned with an F.I.M Ultimap chip.
Pete is also in the envious position of owning two magnificent toys.
His 999R FILA was first to arrive on Ducshop’s doorstep to have his 54mm Termignoni
system dyno tuned. We installed a PCIII USB and STM adjustable cam pulleys,
degreed the cams and built a custom map on the dyno. We also installed a
stiffer spring on the rear shock.
