PRESS ROOM
"On Sunday you could listen that sound, unique and immediately recognizable; you could see come a red and silver spot and then you asked yourself if that was "your" Ducati. No, it was almost identical: yours got a mark with a coyote which turned its legs in whirls ... your Ducati was special".
NCR, a brand always linked
to Ducati’s history
A garage at the foot of a ramp was the old, historical workshop in Bologna.
In a place that most of the people believed a training ground, the never ending passion of two men, Rino and Giorgio reigned. They would have brought a lot to the bike’s world.
NCR rose in 1969, established
by Rino Caracchi and Giorgio Nepoti; it was the first racing team to set up and transform the Ducati
bikes into true rulers over the competitors.
The bikes that on Sundays dared the international big champions started to come to the light at the bottom of that ramp.
Nepoti and Caracchi didn’t talk much either for their own nature and for the lack of time. They aimed at honouring
their commitment to create stylish ladies fiberglass dressed with a sporty and aggressive heart.
The NCR racing team becomes very soon the reference point for the sporting activities of the Ducati’s customers
in Italy and over the World.
With the coming of the bi-cylindrical at "L", the Ducati brand gets successful in all the world and the NCR team becomes the standard-bearer of the bolognese Reds in every track.
In the 1973 Canellas and Grau prevail in the exhausting "24 Horas del Montjuich", victory repeated in the 1975. Canellas and Ferrari take the Ducati NCR to the victory in the "1000 Km del Mugello". Both competitions valid for the Coupe FIM d'Endurance .
The present and the future
At the end of 2001 the brand "NCR" is acquired by the "POGGIPOLINI GROUP", firm world leader in the processing of light alloys as Titanium, Magnesium, Aluminium and special steels, and also established reality in important sets like Formula1, MotoGP, Aeronautics and Marine.
The president Stefano Poggipolini changes NCR into a productive reality induced by his passion for the racings world.
The goal is to manufacture exclusive bikes and to create a Research & Development Centre, where Design and Technology meets together. Technology and Innovation give a new image to NCR.
As logical consequence, it materializes an historical transfer for the bolognese team: from preparing to producing.
In the first months of 2005, once got from the Italian Transportation Ministry the certification as Firm authorized to manufactures motorcycles, the project by Stefano Poggipolini becomes reality.
So the first special-alloys, most of all Titanium, line of accessories starts rapidly; the step towards the supply of setups and motors is short and now NCR offers bikes complete and ready to use.
All the products are offered to the customers only after extended tests on the race circuit.
Thanks to the notable technology, to the consolidated
know-how and to the unquestioned competences
and experiences made available from the mother house, NCR in only two years (2002-2004) has been able to present two projects: MILLONA (now in production) and MACCHIA NERA (unique and extreme prototype).
NCR’s mission is now to prove itself in the motorcycling
market as a company producer of exclusive bikes carrying high technological contents and a distinguishing design and, main point, devoted to demanding people.

In the 1976 Ferrari and Perugini win the "BOL d'Or of Misano" but the victory that will take Ducati into the legend, and the NCR team together, comes in the 1978 when the great Mike Hailwood seals his return to the bikes competition on the saddle of the 900SS set right in the NCR atelier with his mythic success at the Tourist Trophy.
Other two victories at the Montjuich's ups and downs in the 1980 with the team Mallol - Tojedo and in the 1981 with the team De Juan - Grau.
This superiority was confirmed also in the years 1981, 1985, 1986.
Following the launch of the new Superbike World Championship, the Ducati firm increases its direct involvment in the competitions.
In the 1991 a new great victory of the bikes managed by NCR is recorded just in the Superbike World Championship, thanks to the Ducati 888 Fast by Ferracci, that the Us-Italian manager Eraldo Ferracci has assigned to the technical management of the bolognese team.
In the course of that year Doug Polen literally dominates the championship, beating all the existing records and fixing the category statistics on values which are still nowadays beyond one's reach: 17 wins, out of which 7 in a row, and 6 "double victory" assign to Polen also the best "performance index" of any times in the Superbike category: average of 33,2 points obtained against the 40 available.
The NCR team keeps on attending to the Superbike World Championship, getting in the years in its team consistent riders as Ben Bostrom, Pierfrancesco Chili, Regis Laconi and many other very talented riders.
