Ducshop NCR Racing's Mike Smith won the WERA Heavyweight Twins Superbike - June 19, 2006
Ducshop NCR Racing's Mike Smith won the WERA Heavyweight Twins Superbike race at Talladega GP Raceway on Sunday with a ten second lead on his rivals. The veteran superbike racer had the NCR Millona running inside two seconds of the lap record - set the same weekend on an '06 GSXR1000 - in the first practice session and the team were content enough with the bike's set-up they chose to sit out Sunday morning practice and go straight into the afternoon race.
Renovations on the Talladega GP circuit will begin in August and the track will undergo a complete layout change so with a four second a lap advantage over the competition the team decided to not spend energy on suspension set-up but to concentrate on a safe race win.
The team will race again in two weeks at Road Atlanta's Cycle Jam and expect some stiff competition against many more four-valve Ducatis and Aprillia Milles.
