DUCSHOP BLIND FUND
Since
opening its doors Ducshop has concentrated its efforts on raising money for
surgical eye camps in
Tibet
. To date it has raised
$9,000, enough to sponsor an eye camp from
Nepal
to go into the Tibet
Autonomous Region.
Half
of the population of
Tibet
is blinded by treatable
cataracts by age 70. Cataract surgery is relatively easy and inexpensive but
approximately 80% of the Tibetan population lives in impoverished, rural areas
and the standard of healthcare available to them is far below what most would consider acceptable. Click
here to read more.
Over the course of a single week, an eye camp, run by the Tilganga
Eye Center, can perform as many as 700 cataract surgeries. Ducshop
aims to sponsor one of these camps each year.
We are organizing several activities this year in which to raise funds:
Charity Auction
- January, 2007
Ducshop is once again offering a range of unique
collectibles in its annual charity auction. This year’s auction, which will
raise money for the Tibet Fund, is divided into two parts – the first an Ebay auction, and the second at the opening of its new shop
in March.
Ebay items include signed Yoshimura and Austin Ducati team gear;
autographed knee pucks, gloves and visor from Troy Corser;
caps signed by Hodgson, Schwantz, Mladin and Bostrom and other signed MotoGP memorabilia.
Grand Opening – March,
2007
Ducshop
will open the doors of their new store in 2007. Their goal is to have the grand
opening to coincide with the Daytona 200 and season’s first MotoGP race on March 10. During the opening we will be selling raffle tickets for
signed memorabilia and will conclude the day with an auction of race gear
including a signed Valentino Rossi cap.

Espresso sales
The espresso bar in Ducshop's showroom is used to
raise money for the Tibet Fund. For $1 customers are treated to an espresso,
cappuccino or latte, made with the best coffee. Last year we raised $860 in
coffee sales and other small projects. We can thank in part, several of our
customers, David & Claire Haselhorst, Willie Fryer and
Steve Greenfield
, for supplying us with
fresh whole beans from
Columbia
,
France
and
Italy
. Please be sure to
indulge yourself next time you're in the store.
