Plan the wash around your motorcycle's materials and instructions. Gentle cleaning and a careful final check are more useful than an aggressive one-product approach.
Download printable guide & worksheet (PDF)Prepare the bike and materials
Let the motorcycle cool and choose a stable, suitable washing area. Read the cleaning section of the owner's manual and product labels. Identify matte paint, polished metal, screens, electrical parts and other surfaces needing different care. Prepare clean, nonabrasive cloths.
Clean in controlled sections
Use methods and products permitted for each surface. Lift loose dirt gently and keep contaminated cloths separate. Avoid directing water into intakes, exhaust openings, bearings, connectors or other sensitive areas. Do not use an aggressive jet or chemical merely because it removes dirt quickly.
Dry and check before returning to use
Dry accessible surfaces without forcing water deeper into assemblies. Remove all temporary covers. Follow the manual's after-wash checks, including brakes and any specified lubrication. Keep care products away from tire tread, brake friction surfaces and controls where residue could affect grip or operation.
