Removing a passenger bracket may also remove an exhaust mounting point.

The starting point

Before removing passenger pegs, determine whether their brackets support the muffler or another component. Use an exhaust hanger approved for the exact motorcycle and exhaust combination whenever replacement support is required.

Inspect the original support arrangement

Trace where the muffler mounts to the motorcycle. Some assemblies share a passenger peg bracket, while others use a separate support. Photograph both sides and check the service information. Do not assume the exhaust can safely hang from its pipe joints after a supporting bracket is removed.

Match the hanger to both bike and exhaust

A hanger can be model-specific and still be intended for only certain original or aftermarket exhausts. Check mounting locations, muffler clamp or tab alignment, required spacers and included hardware. A slip-on system that relocates the muffler may need a different arrangement from the factory system.

Account for what remains exposed

Passenger bracket removal can leave unused mounting points or change clearance near bodywork. A blanking plate may finish an opening, but it does not replace a load-bearing hanger. Confirm any cover’s purpose and fitment separately. Avoid arbitrary hardware substitutions that change alignment or fastener engagement.

Finish with a complete installation check

Follow the exhaust and hanger manufacturers’ instructions for support, assembly and tightening. Check the full installed configuration for contact and heat clearance. Removing passenger pegs changes passenger provisions; do not carry a passenger without suitable equipment restored. Have a qualified installer review any uncertain support arrangement before riding.

Common questions

Can a cover plate replace an exhaust hanger?

Only if explicitly designed and approved to provide that support. A cosmetic cover usually serves a different purpose.

Will one hanger fit every slip-on for my bike?

Do not assume so. Confirm the hanger’s supported exhaust arrangements as well as motorcycle fitment.
